The Diamond Break down

When you type, what is a diamond into google it says..Quote

Diamond, a mineral composed of pure carbon. It is the hardest naturally occurring substance known; it is also the most popular gemstone. Because of their extreme hardness.

Let's go over that.

First, yes a Diamond is a mineral composed of pure carbon and ONLY carbon and when it's mixed with the right amounts of heat and pressure crystals then form near the center of the earth.

WOW

Then the crystals get brought to the surface with other rocks by colliding tectonic plates and the formation of mountains or even volcanoes !

Very cool, I know I thought the same thing you're thinking now when I learned of this in diamond school. Science is cool.

Now let's talk about the fact that a diamond is the hardest naturally occurring substance on earth. Great, because being that they are used for engagement rings which are worn every single day for years and years and years, makes it the perfect stone to sit right on top of your finger all day every day!

Seriously, that is why Amethyst, Aquamarine and other beautiful colored stones are not seen on the top of Engagement ring's often. Because they simply do not hold up. Meaning, they nick, chip and sometimes even break because their hardness is not high enough to withhold the everyday wear and tear that an engagement ring may endures.

And that's why a Diamond ring came to be known as the perfect thing to gift your new bride. A ring that will last a life time and could even be past down to generations!

The good news is yes, diamonds are quite expensive and may not be affordable for everyone but we have recently acquired two new diamond alternatives in the trade!

Lab grown diamonds and Moissanite!

Look out for my next blog and learn how these stones can have the same big beautiful look and hardness of a Natural Diamond but will help not break the bank!
